Al Hamra Stamina 2011

Well what a fantastic weekend was had by all... "The Stamina Ride"... it lived upto all its promises, an amazing challenge, race and most importantly very enjoyable social gathering.

Everyone finally set off from the bottom the climb, 23 entrants passing through the Red Bull archway, adrenalin pumping at the start.
The start provided the usual immediate breakaway with the Super fit amongst us racing away, also with James arriving late some thought they had an opportunity maybe for the number one slot...
However it was not to be as some of us panted around the first few bends, James Whizzed by....Oh well maybe next time..!
The climb was as promised a huge challenge, loose gravel on tight 16-20% bends proved tiresome to even the most competant of riders, with many of us having to walk a few of the climbs. There appeared to be only one slight 100 meter break in the whole ride.
Supported and cheered on by the support vehicles and spouses virtually every rider made it to the top and The View...
This was most definately not a climb for the faint hearted, and everyone deserves a huge pat on the back for attacking the challenge with so much determination.
Everyone was a winner, however with Prizes to be awarded, 1st Place , well yes went to James Powers, an amazing 45min ride, Willie took the very well derserved 2nd position , And Patrick in 57 mins took the Third place.
There was then a succession of success stories, Hilary completing the course superbly on a first ride of her new bike supported by Hubbie Nigel and his instruction on the go of how to use the gears..!
Patricks son bravely also attempting the climb as the youngest rider..to name but a few.. Prizes awarded and thanks given to all those who had made the event possible, people either returned to Muscat or continued with the Social weekend and enjoyed superb hospitality in The View. The evening meal and camp fire enabling everyone to discuss the success of the day.

After breakfast the following morning an excited group , joined by a few wives this time enjoyed a enlightening tour by Bicycle around the village of Al Hamra, through plantations and ancient buildings, giving many photo opportunities to all.
Thanks to Andrea a super display of local crafts, Museum and a traditional Omani hospitality concluded another amazing memorable weekend in Oman.

Many riders then went their separate ways to either further explore the available climbs in the mountains either by car or bicycle on their way back to Muscat.
None of these events would be possible if it wasnt for the generosity of the many Sponsors, Oman Bicyle, The View, Al Hamra Community and local ROP.

However more importantly, the dedication of the Organisers, so on behalf of all the participants and families who were able to enjoy the Fantasticweekend... THANK YOU... Marcel... Frans... Andrea...
